Gunmen Kill One of Three Monks Kidnapped from Monastery in Kwara, Throw His Body into River

The brutal murder of one of the monks who were abducted from the Benedictine monastery in Eruku, Kwara State has been confirmed. Gunmen raided the monastery on October 17, 2023 and kidnapped Brother Godwin Eze along with two other monks, Anthony Mary Eze and Peter Olarewanju. Administer of the Catholic Diocese of Ilorin, Fr. Anselm Pendo Lawani, verified the heinous act and revealed that Brother Godwin Eze’s body was thrown into a river. The diocese had earlier announced the release of Anthony Eze and Olarewaju and requested prayers for the third kidnapped monk, Brother Godwin Eze. Father Joseph Ekesioba, a former novice director at the monastery, disclosed that Brother Godwin Eze was shot and killed by Fulani bandits and his body was thrown into a river. The monastery is currently making efforts to retrieve his body. They have also been compelled to relocate the monks to a safer location due to ongoing threats of attacks.
