Is Hardibacker fire retardant? Yes, HardieBacker 1/4 Cement Board is considered non-combustible when tested to ASTM E 136 and can be used in conjunction with other non-combustible materials around the fireplace. This does not mean that the distance to combustible building materials can be reduced by using the HardieBacker 1/4.
