Hardie® Backer cement board is a tile underlayment made to use on walls, with floors and countertops. Works as a tile backerboard and as an underlayment for tile, vinyl and wood flooring. 0.42″ cement board is made of 90% Portland cement and sand, resists damage from moisture and provides excellent tile adhesion.

What’s the difference between cement board and Hardibacker?

HardieBacker is much more light, and it is also the best selling brand of cement board available. It is much cleaner because it does not have any glass in it. It allows for a smooth job with minimal mess. As a bonus, HardieBacker board has an EZ Grid pattern so you can cut perfect lines.

Is Hardibacker board waterproof?

Can you tile directly over HardieBacker board?

HardieBacker can take up to 200kg of tile hanging weight per m2 so almost any tile can be fixed. Screws should remain 100mm from the top and bottom edges and 50mm from the left and right edges. Ensure you do not overdrive the screws and the screw remains flush with the front of the board.

Can you tile over drywall?

You can tile over drywall in areas that are not exposed to excessive moisture, and it is safe. It is not safe to tile over drywall in areas that are exposed to wetness like in the shower. Water in these areas can eventually seep behind the tile and cause damage, mold, or pest infestations.

How do you fasten Hardie board?

Fasten the siding – You can fasten it with a pneumatic nailer or nailing by hand. You can use corrosion-resistant screws, or you can use stainless steel or hot-dipped galvanized nails. You can nail the siding by either blind nailing it at the top or face nailing it at the bottom.
