The PROWAG requirements have not been officially adopted by the DOJ; however, the Federal Highway Administration has issued proposed guidelines that the draft version of PROWAG is a recommended best practice and can be used for areas not fully addressed in the current ADAAG requirements.
What is the Prowag?
PROWAG – “recommended best practices, and can be. considered the state of the practice that could be followed for. areas not fully addressed by the present ADA standards”
What is ADA requirements for sidewalks?
For ADA compliance, the minimum sidewalk width is 36 inches (3 feet), though sidewalks can be wider. If sidewalks are less than 60 inches (5 feet) wide, passing spaces must be constructed every 200 feet.
