Our modern-day Superman, Henry Cavill, had quite the joyride leading up to his role of Geralt of Rivia in the novel series adaptation of The Witcher. While the second season is already set to premiere in early 2021 (this might change as with any other date change from Netflix), he's already moved on to two other projects, representing another iconic character, Sherlock Holmes, in Enola Holmes, and voice out Ryan Enright in the video game Squadron 42.

In case you haven't been updated with the Enola Holmes drama, Cavill (pronounced similar to travel or gravel) is NOT the main character of the show. Millie Bobby Brown [Stranger Things] will take on the lead as the younger sister of Cavill's character. So, it's mostly about Enola Holmes' story than the detective himself.

Born on May 5, 1983 [age 37], in Jersey, Channel Islands, as Henry William Dalgliesh Cavill (a really English name), the fascination with acting for him came in his younger days, particularly with the bond he had with Shakespearean plays. While it's evident from his portrayal of 'the' Sherlock Holmes, Cavill was involved only in one project last year, The Witcher. But if his past career is anything, he likes to relax for a long time before taking on another project, much is his habit to do one movie or show every year. And while you may think he only started iconic roles in 2013 with Man of Steel, he's been going at it for a long time, going as far back as 2005.

For his most recent work, The Witcher, Variety reported that Henry Cavill would earn a salary of $400,000 per episode, bringing the total to $3.2 million for the entirety of the first season on Netflix. That piece, however, was modified to not mention it at all. Plus, there's that war about men and women being paid differently in Hollywood for equally important roles.

Cavill star alongside Anya Chalotra (net worth: $350,000) as Yennefer of Vanderberg, Freya Allan as Ciri and MyAnna Buring (net worth: $4.5 million) as Tissaia de Vries. The first season revolves around Yennefer's struggles to become stronger, Geralt moving from town to town hunting down monsters for money and Ciri in a search for Geralt. Yes, they are yet to meet but it does happen at the end of the season. The second season has already been announced to be released sometime in (presumably in early) 2021.

The fourth of five sibling-brothers of parents Colin Cavill and Marianne Cavill (née Dalgliesh), Henry moved to Buckinghamshire, England, to study at Stowe School after being privately educated at St. Michael's Preparatory School in Saint Saviour, Jersey.

There was one turning point from a life of being an "easy target" at school. When he was 17, he was discovered doing a play by casting directors at school. They were looking for a young boy play Albert Mondego in the 2002 movie, The Count of Monte Cristo. Sure enough, he got it. But the shape-shifting moments started from hereon. When he started the project, he'd lost 21 pounds of weight.

Before The Count of Monte Cristo, his first on-screen appearance was released in Laguna [2001] as Thomas. Unsurprisingly, that was also his first starring role ever. But the memory of his prominent star role goes to Stephen Colley in I Capture the Castle [2003]. Along with that, at 20 years of age, he got more starring roles in Hellraiser: Hellworld [2005], Red Riding Hood [2006] and Tristan & Isolde [2006].

By then, the 37-year-old had already started on TV as well. His first was an appearance in The Inspector Lynley Mysteries episode in 2002, and he followed it up with another one-episode role in Midsomer Murders in 2003. He also went on the TV movie Goodbye, Mr. Chips in 2002.

After a couple of additional smaller movie roles, he moved on to get a breakthrough role of the lead, Charles Brandon, 1st Duke of Suffolk, with The Tudors in 2007. After four seasons of The Tudors, it was announced on January 30, 2011, that Henry Cavill had been cast as the next Superman in the modern-day DC franchise movie, Man of Steel.

The actor thus became the first non-American actor to play Superman. It was a box office hit after being released in 2013, making a cumulative $668 million worldwide according to current standings, while some people may have preferred a different casting choice. It also became the highest-grossing Superman movie to date and the second-highest-grossing reboot of all time after 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man.

He went on to reprise the role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice [2016] and Justice League [2017]. In between, he also starred as Solo in The Man from U.N.C.L.E. [2015], which grossed $107 million in the worldwide charts. Superman also made him the Sexiest Man by Glamour Magazine.

There's still a complete confirmation as to if Henry Cavill is leaving the DC universe altogether. But if the breakdown of contract negotiations for Shazam! and Warner Bros.'s statement is anything to go by, his time in DC is truly over. It still an open discussion to those who need it to be.
