How Are Mtel Scores Scaled

The scores that are reported on the MTEL are “scaled” scores. Candidate scores are converted mathematically to a scale with a lower limit of 100, a passing score of 240, and an upper limit of 300. In this process, raw candidate scores as well as raw passing scores for the tests are converted to scaled scores.

Why are the MTELs so hard?

The MTELs Focus on Basic Skills. In Bloom’s Taxonomy terms, knowing them at the “Knowledge/Remember” level is not enough to help with these exams; they are not matching or fill-in-the-blank style tests, and the multiple-choice questions aren’t easy either (more on this below).

How long are Mtel scores valid?

MTEL test scores do not expire. TOEFL and IELTS scores are good for up to 2 years from date of exam.
