How Can I Speed up My watchOS Update?
Contents

Why does watchOS take so long to update?

Sending that much data over Bluetooth is insane—watchOS updates typically weigh in anywhere between a few hundred megabytes to more than a gigabyte. Making the weakest link—sending the installer to your watch—faster by temporarily disabling Bluetooth shaves off a significant amount of time from the update process.

Why is watchOS 6 taking so long?

If you are upgrading from watchOS 6, you will have the quickest upgrade path, but if you are on an older release, this process could take longer, due to a potentially bigger update. Plan on spending at least 20 minutes and potentially up to an hour installing iOS 13.6 if you aren’t already on it.
