How Do Guide Bushings Work

Here’s the basic concept: A guide bushing mounts to the router’s subbase with a tube that protrudes below. A straight router bit extends through the tube. The outer surface of the tube rides against an edge guide or template, keeping the bit a set distance (offset) from the edge guide or template.

How do router template guides work?

Router template guides fit into the base of your router and direct it along the edge of a template. They can be used to accurately rout the edge of your stock to a specific shape, to rout cavities and mortises, or even to accurately bore positioned holes.

What is a router copying ring?

Copy rings sometimes refer to the routers that use some other form of attachment to get the ring fastened to the router. I’m not familiar with the system you referenced but most of the time the bushing or guide in those are used to accurately place the router in a jig.
