How do I boot into emergency mode?

When the GRUB boot menu appears, press “e” to edit it. Find the line that starts with the word “linux” and add the following line at the end of it. After adding the above line, hit Ctrl+x or F10 to boot into emergency mode. After a few seconds, you will be landed in the emergency mode as root user.

What is Linux emergency mode?

The emergency mode provides a minimum Linux environment to recover our system if an OS cannot boot into the rescue mode. In the emergency mode, Linux mounts the root file system as read-only. If we press Control + D, the system will start booting, but in some time it gets back to the emergency mode.
