Place a focus in the central slot and available upgrades will be shown as icons at the bottom. Click to select an upgrade. The cost in EXP is shown to the right of the focus while the cost in centi-vis is shown to the left.

When holding any wand or staff (scepters cannot use foci), the player can press and hold the F key (configurable) for a pop-up display of all foci in their inventory, and use the cursor to choose among them.
