How Do You Calculate Fertilizer Spreader

The spreader calibration formula is “amount of fertilizer used- times 1000- divided by the area of the test strip”. If using a rotary spreader: Lets say your spreader makes a 10 ft. wide strip. Now, multiply 10 by the length of the test strip, which is 50ft.

How are spreader settings calculated?

  1. Divide 100 by the square foot the bag of fertilizer covers.
  2. Multiply the weight of the bag by this number.
  3. The answer is the amount of fertilizer needed to cover 100 sq. ft.
  4. Place this amount in the spreader.
  5. Mark off a 10 ft. x 10 ft. area.
  6. Apply using the suggested setting.

How many pounds of fertilizer do I need per square foot?

Two pounds of nitrogen per 1,000 square feet* is recommended, and your fertilizer contains 20% nitrogen. You should apply 10 pounds of the fertilizer per 1,000 square feet (five pounds from the table multiplied by the two pound recommendation).
