If you can warm it up to hand hot in a dish or pan and run each piece of the bridle through it. You will see that bubbles come out of the leather. This will darken the leather and supple it up. You can use the oil on the underside of your saddle to keep that supple too.

How do you darken horse tack?

If you would like to really darken your tack, you can go with hydrophane, also available at most tack shops. This is very common for hunter/jumper saddles, which sometimes start out more orange in color. A few coats with hydrophane and you have a more natural and darker brown color.

How do you darken leather reins?

Plain neatsfoot oil will do it. Apply several thin coats. Leaving the reins out in the sunlight will help darken the leather, too. Oil them and use them, and they’ll be a rich brown shortly.
