How Do You Propagate Mountain Ashes

Remove all the leaves except for a few at the top of the cutting. Dip the cut end of the stem into the rooting hormone, then place it into the sand. Make sure you bury at least three nodes (portion of the stem where the leaves were attached). Place the potted cutting in a warm area, such as on top of the refrigerator.

Can you plant mountain ash berries?

Plant mountain ash seeds in freshly turned soil blended with acid peat in a partially shaded area in the late summer. Locations with cold winters and altitudes higher than 3,000 feet are preferable, but temperate zones with annual rainfall amounts of 40 inches or more are also suitable.

How do you start mountain ash?

Use 50% leafmould or peat-free compost and 50% horticultural sand. For each handful of seeds add two or three handfuls of mixture. Select a pot that has enough room for this seed/sand mixture (and a bit more) and put a layer of stones in the bottom. Cover the stones with sand.
