How Does Skype Work?

Skype is a VoIP service that enables people to make and receive free voice and video calls over the internet using a computer, web browser, or mobile phone. VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) enables communication that goes around the standard methods of landlines and cellular plans.

Is Skype free or not?

Skype to Skype calling lets you make free calls online for up to 100 people for audio or video conferencing on any device. It's easy to chat with co-workers across the world or catch up with your closest friends when online calling is free.

Do both parties need Skype for it to work?

Users download the Skype software to their computers and they then use the internet to connect to each other anywhere in the world. It works for voice and video, provided both computers have fast enough connections. So the person I'm calling needs a computer too? No, but if both parties are using Skype calls are free.
