How Far Apart Do You Put Noggins?

If vertical timber planking is to be used for the cladding, position noggins at about 450mm (18 inch) vertical spacing.

What is the spacing for noggins?

Normally, noggins are equally spaced between the floor and the ceiling. For example, if a wall is 8 feet tall, the noggins would be placed at 4 feet above the floor. The noggins can be staggered slightly to allow for nailing them in between the studs.

How many noggins can you have between joists?

Up to 4.5m span one row of noggins at mid span is needed. Above 4.5m span use two rows of noggins at third points. Noggins need to be at least 38mm wide and the depth should be at least 0.75 times depth of joists.
