How Is Cytidine Triphosphate Made?

Phosphorylation of UMP leads to the formation of uridine diphosphate (UDP) (by the enzyme uridine-cytidine kinase 2) and uridine triphosphate (UTP) (by the enzyme nucleoside diphosphate kinase). Amination of UTP leads to the formation of cytidine triphosphate (CTP) by the action of the enzyme CTP synthetase.

What does a cytidine molecule contain?

Cytidine is a structural subunit of ribonucleic acid that consists of cytosine and the sugar ribose.

How is CTP produced?

CTP is formed by CTP synthetase by transferring an amino group from glutamine to UTP (Figure 3). Pyrimidine biosynthesis is regulated by feedback inhibition of the first enzyme carbamoyl phosphate synthetase by the end products UMP, UDP, and UTP of the pathway.
