Senior Member. etwas never means any. It means something or a little. So when some means a little (some milk/a little milk), it translates into etwas: Geben Sie etwas Milch/ein wenig Milch hinzu.
What is the difference between einige and etwas in German?
at first glance I would translate both with "some" but einige also means "a few" and etwas also means "a bit"
What is the difference between etwas and Manche?
Etwas: It can be interchangeable with einige und manche, but if it's associated with an uncountable word, you would always rather go for etwas. In fact, if you want to be on the safe side, use einige und manche only for countable words and etwas for uncountable ones.
