What does Proctofoam do for hemorrhoids?

This combination medication is used to treat minor pain, itching, swelling, and discomfort caused by hemorrhoids and other problems of the anal area (e.g., anal fissures). This medication contains pramoxine, an anesthetic that works by temporarily numbing the area.

Is Proctofoam safe?

It is approved for temporary relief of anorectal inflammation, pruritus, pain and swelling associated with haemorrhoids, fissures, pruritus ani, cryptitis, proctitis and postoperative pain. We hypothesize that local application of Proctofoam-HC® in the third trimester of pregnancy is safe for the mother and fetus.
