How Long Does Glidden Paint Take to Dry

The majority of alkyd/oil paints, when applied at room temperature, will be dry set-to-touch within six to eight hours and may be recoated within 16 hours. Poor ventilation, low temperatures, thick films and high humidity will increase these times.

How long should paint cure before putting items on it?

At least 72 hours. A full week is even better. The longer you wait before setting items on a freshly painted surface, the better the chance the paint has to fully dry. Depending on the type of stain or paint I would wait at least 24 to 48 hours.

What happens if you recoat paint too soon?

One of the surest ways to ruin your paint is to apply later coats before the earlier coats are fully cured. If you hurry the coats, you risk ruining an otherwise perfect paint job by creating pulls and streaks in still soft, wet paint. Bubbles and pits form that are not easily repaired.
