The average time is 6- 8 weeks of dedicated studying. However, many started thinking about the exam and did content review (reading First Aid, Board Review Series/BRS, watching pathoma videos , etc,) way before they started dedicated studying.
Is 3 months enough for Step 1?
You usually need at least three months of dedicated study. If you feel like you are one of the top students in your medical schools, then you’ll be fine with three months. However, I would strongly recommend to leave those three months for question practice ONLY!
How long do most people study for Step 1?
On average, students taking the USMLE Step 1 exam will need at least 500-600 hours of study, which works out to 10 hours daily over 6-8 weeks. Individual students may need more, or less.
