How Long Does Lacquer Car Paint Last

Classic Vehicles: Vehicles made before 1960 have either acrylic lacquer or acrylic enamel paint. This paint is excellent due to its bright colors and shine, but after about 5 – 10 years of sunlight exposure it begins to fade and crack.

How long will lacquer paint last?

Three years is a safe number, but the truth is that older coatings, properly stored, may be viable much longer, though shelf life varies from one finish to another. Nitrocellulose lacquer can last indefinitely, and even decades-old lacquer is usually just fine.

Does lacquer protect car paint?

Clearcoat Lacquer is the final layer that is applied to the painted surface of your vehicle. Typically it is between 32 and 102 microns in depth and its primary function is to protect the underlying paint base colour.
