How Long Should Runners Be

The length of your table runner is up to you. Ideally, it should hang at least six inches over each end of your table, but shouldn’t hang further than your tablecloth. For example, if your table is 60 inches long, your table runner should be at least 72 inches long, allowing for six inches at either end of the table.

What is the average length of a runner?

The standard runner rug is between 2 and 3 feet wide, and can range from 6 to 14 feet long. Ideally, you should have 4 to 5 inches of flooring visible on all sides of your carpet runner, like hedging.

How thick should a runner be?

We find that a 2’3″ wide runner is a comfortable width for a hallway this wide. This leaves you about 4 to 5 inches of floor showing on each side. Most standard runners come this width, or close to it. If your hallway is extra wide, you may need a wider runner.
