How Many Articular Processes Do Vertebrae Have

There are seven processes that project from a typical vertebra. Four articular processes originate from the joint between the pedicles and laminae, two point superiorly and two point inferiorly.

Articular processes spring from the junctions of the pedicles and laminæ, and there are two right and left, and two superior and inferior. These stick out of an end of a vertebra to lock with a zygapophysis on the next vertebra, to make the backbone more stable.

How many vertebrae present in vertebral column?

In humans, the vertebral column usually consists of 33 vertebrae, placed in series and connected by ligaments and intervertebral discs. However, the number of vertebrae can vary between 32 and 35. Usually there are 7 cervical, 12 thoracic, 5 lumbar, 5 sacral and 4 caudal (coccygeal) vertebrae.
