I found the average medical student to get around 6-7 hours of sleep per night. There is, however, a pretty consistent, seasonal decline in the amount of sleep hours medical students get around the time of exams.
How many hours do med students sleep?
Results. There were 261, out of a possible 720, responses to the survey. While 71.5% of respondents believed that they needed >7 hours of sleep only 24.9% of respondents stated they average >7 hours of sleep. During the week of an examination only 15.3% of students stated they averaged >7 hours of sleep.
Numerous scientific studies have shown the link between lack of sleep and problems with attention and overall health. And as suspected, data show that medical students are more at risk of sleep deprivation than nonmedical students.
