For the drainage channel itself you can use either a slightly angled 4 inch steel drain pipe to the open air some distance from the pit, or a gravel channel a few inches deep – again to reach daylight under the walls of the pit and then some distance away.
Should fire pits have drainage?
A fire pit should sit low to the ground, with walls rising no more than a foot off the ground. But for stability, the base of the wall must be buried below ground in a hole lined with gravel, providing drainage and protecting against frost heaves in winter.
