In a Well-Fed State?

The absorptive state, or well-fed state, starts immediately after a meal consumption. Digestion begins in the mouth, where saliva begins to break down carbohydrates into smaller components. Carbohydrate digestion continues in the stomach and small intestines, along with protein and fat digestion.

What happens in a well-fed state?

The well-fed, or postabsorptive, state. After we consume and digest an evening meal, glucose and amino acids are transported from the intestine to the blood. The dietary lipids are packaged into chylomicrons and transported to the blood by the lymphatic system.

What is a starvation state?

Starvation states happen very rarely in generally well-nourished individuals. When the body is fed, glucose, fats, and proteins are absorbed across the intestinal membrane and enter the bloodstream and lymphatic system to be used immediately for fuel. Any excess is stored for later fasting stages.
