Interface Level in Desalter?

Normally desalters are operated between 165-190 PSIG (11 to 13 Bar) with a max of 215 PSIG (15 Bar). The operating temperature is typically 265-275 F (129- 135C) with a max of 300 F (150 C). It is very important to know the actual interface level to avoid tripping the electrical grid.

What is interface level?

Interface level measurement is common in oil and gas, chemical industries. An interface is a limit between two immiscible liquids, due to its density difference. The interface measurement finds the limit between the two liquids, therefore, to calculate the measurement of both quantities of liquid.

What is the benefit we get from interface level in refinery process?

Interface measurement in the secondary desalter

Reliable measurement of this level protects the grid from shorting out on the water as well as increasing efficiency of the unit, which ensures the quality of the feed moving into the next process unit.
