Is Catmint Easy to Grow

Catmint is hardy, easy to grow and deer and rabbit proof. The grey green leaves yield white, pink, or lavender blue colored flowers in early summer. If you snip it back after flowering it will have another flush of flowers later in summer. The 2-foot tall plant’s habit can be wild and floppy.

Does catmint come back every year?

Even without being sheared, the plant will repeat bloom and continue to look attractive over the hot summer months. Leave spent foliage in place over winter to help protect the crown. Wait until early spring to cut it back. To keep catmint vigorous, divide it every three to four years in either spring or early fall.

How long does it take to grow catmint?

Water lightly and keep moist until sprouts appear, in two to three weeks. Thin seedlings to about 18 inches apart. It is important to note that not all nepeta species can be started from seed. Some, such as Faassen’s catmint, are sterile and can only be propagated by division or from cuttings.
