The Highway Code states “You should always drive in the left-hand lane when the road ahead is clear.” It is not an offence in itself, to smoke, eat or change the radio station whilst driving. But you could commit the offence of driving without due care and attention, or of not being in proper control of the vehicle.

Music that mimics the rate of your heartbeat (in other words 60-80 beats per minute) is the best choice. Slower music like soft rock, jazz or even talk radio is your best bet for 'background' music to listen to while driving. Avoid connecting any device to your car's sound system that has to be manually controlled.

Only use your mobile device when allowed by law and when conditions permit safe use. Set up Spotify before you drive and avoid interacting with your device while the car is in motion.
