Overview. Galatea is another of Neptune's tiny moons. Small and irregularly-shaped like Despina, Galatea orbits in the same direction as Neptune and is relatively close to the gas giant's equatorial plane. The small moon's gravity is believed to cause disturbances in Neptune's ring system.
What is Galatea moon made of?
It is believed that Galatea is made from coalesced fragments formed from Neptune's initial moon system, when it captured Triton.
Is Thalassa a moon?
Thalassa is unusual for an irregular moon because it is roughly disk-shaped. Also like Naiad, Thalassa circles the planet in the same direction as Neptune rotates, and remains close to Neptune's equatorial plane.
