Is Jasmine a Good Climber

Jasminum, commonly known as jasmine climbing plants, are one of our most popular climbers. Jasmine is of course highly fragrant. But these plants are also very showy and fast growing which makes them an ideal climber for most gardens. They grow quickly and will spread swiftly to cover walls and outbuildings.

As a shrub, jasmine requires frequent pruning since it can get lanky and semi-vining. Common jasmine grows to a height of 10 to 15 feet. Prune out thin, old shoots after flowering, which occurs in the springtime, to shape the plant and restrain growth.

What plants go well with jasmine?

Good companion plants for summer jasmine ‘Fellow climbers such as clematis are ideal. Varieties with dark purple flowers, such as Clematis x jackmanii or Clematis x “Julka” would provide a dramatic contrast to the jasmine’s white flowers. Jackmanii grows to 12 feet (3.7 m), while Julka reaches 8 feet (2.4 m). ‘
