KCL in D5W is a prescription medicine used to treat the symptoms of electrolyte replenishment and caloric supply. KCL in D5W may be used alone or with other medications. KCL in D5W belongs to a class of drugs called Alkalinizing Agents. It is not known if KCL in D5W is safe and effective in children.

Avoid Potassium Chloride in Dextrose Injection in patients with or at risk for fluid and/or solute overloading. If use cannot be avoided, monitor fluid balance, electrolyte concentrations, and acid-base balance as needed and especially during prolonged use.

Dextrose injected parenterally undergoes oxidation to carbon dioxide and water. Intravenous solutions containing potassium chloride are particularly intended to provide needed potassium cation (K+).
