Is Silver Good for Forging

Copper, silver, brass, and gold can be successfully forged while working the metal red hot. Hot forged metals will forge quickly and don’t need to be repeatedly annealed. Hot forging allows the metalsmith to forge large billets of metal allowing larger and more dynamic forged design elements.

Can you melt silver in a forge?

Secure a furnace or a blow torch. The furnace or torch is what you’ll be using to heat your silver to its melting point. As such, the furnace or blow torch are critical items in melting silver. Depending on the amount of melting you’ll be doing, you can choose between a furnace or torch.

Can Silver Cold work?

Silver can be cold worked up to 70% before annealing is required. Platinum: To soften Platinum, heat material to bright orange color, 1800°F (982°C). Let the piece air cool or quench after reaching bright orange color.
