Is the Cast Test Necessary

All students must take the CAST by the end of grade twelve, but have the option of testing in grade ten or grade eleven. Only eligible students may participate in the administration of the CAST. Students assigned to take an alternate assessment should take the California Alternate Assessment for Science.

Can you opt out of cast testing?

Yes. California Education Code section 60615 allows a parent or guardian to submit a written request to school officials to exclude his or her child from any or all parts of state-mandated assessments.

What is the purpose of the cast test?

CAST is a battery of tests used to gauge an applicant’s aptitude and their ability to learn and process new information which provides an indication of the likelihood of success on the job.
