Though ‘use’ was once commonly used to mean “to be in the habit or custom,” this sense now only occurs in the past tense: ‘used to’.

“Used To” Shows a Former Fact, Habit, or Action While in centuries past there was a corresponding present tense form, use to, we now use this construction only in the past tense. The grocery store used to be at the corner of Main and Fifth.

Was used to or used to?

“I used to [do X]” indicates an activity that you have previously performed regularly, but no longer do. “I was used to [doing X]” indicates that you were accustomed to engaging in a particular activity.
