Johnnyray Gasca was also on Dateline for having filmed the Central Park Attacks in June of 2000. He assisted the police with his footage, which was used to identify and capture over 30 individuals involved in the attacks on women. He was hailed a hero for not only aiding in the capture of the attackers but also refusing $30,000 in reward money offered by Crime Stoppers and the city of New York for the high profile incident. He further testified for Internal Affairs against a police officer who was near the attacks and did nothing to prevent them, despite several witnesses telling the officer that women were being attacked nearby.
