Joy Behar is an actress, comedian, and writer from the United States. On ABC, she co-hosts The View’s daily chat show. She hosted the Joy Behar Show and Joy Behar: Say Anything! on HLN from 2009 until 2011. In 2015, TLC aired Late Night Joy, Behar’s most recent late-night weekly chat show. She’s also the author of The Great Gasbag: An A–Z Study Guide for Surviving Trump’s World.

Early Life and Education

Behar, who was born on October 7, 1942, has become a household name. Her father, Gino Occhiuto, worked for the Coca-Cola Company as a truck driver, while her mother, Rose Occhiuto, worked as a seamstress. Her parents had only one kid, Joy. Behar is of mixed (Italian-American) heritage and holds American citizenship.

Joy attended Washington Irving High School and Queens College, New York City University, where she majored in sociology. She graduated from college in 1964 and went on to Stony Brook University to pursue a master’s degree in English.
