Kenyan Newspapers Review: Police Disclose John Matara Was Married but Divorced After Dispute

On Friday, January 12, the Kenyan newspapers reported that the main suspect in the murder of socialite Starlet Wahu, John Matara, will be held for 14 more days pending investigations.

The dailies also reported that two sisters who days who died days apart in Meru are set to be buried on the same date.

Suspected serial killer John Matara has confessed he stabbed fallen socialite Starlet Wahu in the leg but denied murdering her through chest and head stabs.

The 34-year-old will remain in police custody at Industrial Area Police Station for 14 more days as the police piece up evidence.

Police revealed that Matara told them that he was married with one child but divorced his wife following a domestic dispute.

Matara is set to be charged with murder and another second charge - robbery with violence. According to detectives, he robbed a woman of money from her M-Pesa account.

"I am waiting for my colleague from Ruiru sub-county to bring the file and report made to the DCI department in Njiru area in which Matara was involved," Makadara DCI officer Martin Korongo said.

On Thursday, January 11, the police raided his house in Kahawa West, where they found a bed, a chair and clothes in a rented house.

A family in Meru is mourning after two sisters died two days apart.

Kathleen Nkatha Murugu died on December 27 in her sleep in Isebania, Migori county, where she had gone for a visit.

When her sister Fredah Kinagu Murugu learnt about her demise, she was shocked and died on December 29.

The duo will be buried in Buuri, Meru county, on Saturday, January 13.

A requiem mass was held on Thursday, January 11, for the two lovely sisters, with family, friends and colleagues giving moving tributes.
