The player’s journey to the National Football League was set after the Pittsburgh Steelers selected him in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft. Subsequently, he penned a three-year, $1.80 million contract with the team on 15 June 2010, which included a signing bonus of $586,000.

Emmanuel made his professional regular-season debut in the Steelers’ 15-9 season-opening victory over the Atlanta Falcons. Though his stay at the Steelers was timely affected by a lot of injuries, Emmanuel recorded great stats with the team. Later on 15 March 2014, he made his move to the Denver Broncos, after penning a three-year, $15 million deal that included $6 million guaranteed and a signing bonus of $3 million.

Eventually, Emmanuel extended his stay at the Broncos by signing another three-year contract that was worth $33 million with $20 million guaranteed and a signing bonus of $10.75 million on 7 September 2016. He was traded to the San Francisco 49ers on 22 October 2019.
