The 25-years-of-age player was born on 20 June 1994 as Leonard Austin Williams. He hails from Bakersfield, California, and is among the five children of his parents, Clenon Williams and Aviva Russek. His father, Clenon, was imprisoned for a robbery that forced Aviva to raise him and his four other siblings mostly as a single mother.
About 6 feet and 5 inches (1.96 m) tall in height, Leonard attended Mainland High School in Daytona Beach, Florida. There, he was a two-sport athlete in football and track. Eventually, he enrolled at the University of Southern California and went along with his amateur football career.
Leonard commenced his NFL career after the New York Jets selected him sixth overall in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft. He penned a four-year, $18.6 million contract with the team on 8 May 2015.
The defensive player ringed his professional debut on the Jets’ jersey in the first preseason game against the Detroit Lions on 11 August 2015. Eventually, he recorded a total of five tackles in his regular-season debut against the Cleveland Browns on 13 September 2015.
