Sara Hilary Haines was born on 18 September 1977 as a daughter of Dick Haines and Sandy Haines. Her family consists of three siblings; two older sisters and a brother with whom she grew up in Newton, Iowa.
Haines with a height of 5 feet 6 inches (1.68 meters) attended Smith College in Northhampton, Massachusetts. There, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Government at the age of 23 in 2000.
Initially, Sara worked as a Production Coordinator on NBC Universal for seven years, joining in 2002. Later, she became a contributing correspondent for NBC’s Today Show. She was part of the fourth hour the show alongside Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb, from 2009 to 2013.
