His transfer fee to Paris Saint-Germain, at €145 million plus €35 million in add-ons, made him the then-second most expensive player ever, behind teammate Neymar.

He is the son of Fayza Lamari, a handball player, and Wilfried Mbappé, a football coach and Kylian’s agent. His father is from Djébalè island, Cameroon, and his mother is Algerian, of Kabyle origin. He was raised in Bondy, Seine-Saint-Denis, a commune. His brother is professional footballer Ethan Mbappé and his adoptive brother is professional footballer Jirès Kembo Ekoko. He speaks French, English, and Spanish.
