Early Years and Childhood

Dan Whitney was born on February 17, 1963, and spent his childhood living with his parents, Shirley and Tom Whitney, on a pig farm in Pawnee City, Nebraska.

Whitney attended The King’s Academy in West Palm Beach, Florida, from the late 1970s to the early 1980s while his father was employed there as an elementary school administrator.

After completing his high school education at Berean Christian School in 1982, Whitney enrolled in the Baptist University of America in Georgia before transferring to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to pursue a speech and theater major.

Whitney left college in his junior year to pursue a career as a stand-up comedian after discovering his love for the art form.

Career

The Ron and Ron Show and The Chris Baker Show were where Larry made his radio debut in the early 1990s.

When Larry first started performing stand-up, he used his real name. However, after experiencing little success, he created the Larry The Cable Guy persona, which quickly gained enormous popularity.

He is well-known for his convincing southern drawl as Larry The Cable Guy and his catchphrase “Git-R-Done!” which has become as recognizable as his persona.

Larry’s biggest break came in 2000 when Jeff Foxworthy, Ron White, and Bill Engvall asked him to join their Blue Collar Comedy tour.
