Llama, Alpaca Store Opens at Levis

PERRYSBURG – As a locally grown business The Llama & Alpaca Store, a seasonal store, has provided
the comfort and warmth of alpaca apparel for five years.
Located this year at Levis Commons The Llama & Alpaca Store will be open for the holiday season
now through Dec. 31. It is one of three stores which have recently opened at the center.
The Llama & Alpaca Store carries Peruvian fashions from sweaters to outerwear and accessories.
Store officials said their alpaca socks are always a popular holiday gift. The store also carries a wide
selection of llama and alpaca yarns perfect for making homemade holiday gifts.
The store is operated by Cherreen Thompson, along with John Kaczor. In 2008 the duo started a traveling
mercantile in the Northwest Ohio area called The Broken Spinning Wheel, featuring llama and alpaca
products.
They opened their first seasonal store in 2010; The Llama & Alpaca Store is are now in its fifth
season
Thompson has more than 30 years experience with llamas and alpacas. Her farm, Honnalee Llamas, which has
both llamas and alpacas is located outside of Toledo. Privately owned, the farm is not open to the
public at this time. She is also an experienced shearer and spinner making her own llama and alpaca
yarns which she sells and hand weaves into fine garments.
The seasonal store is located at Levis Commons Suite 4130. The owners try to add new merchandise each
year, however Thomson said, "none of which replaces the highly popular alpaca socks."
According to the owners, the socks have superior thermal qualities which keep the wearer’s feet warm and
dry in any type of weather. They indicated the best feature is they are hypoallergenic. The store
carries roving, yarns, scarves, hats, gloves, sweaters, coats, and more. Most of their products are made
from alpaca or an alpaca blend.
