Manchester United Eyes Graham Potter as Replacement for Ten Hag

Recent reports suggest that former Chelsea manager Graham Potter could potentially step in to replace embattled Dutch coach Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.

Ten Hag’s position has come under threat following Tuesday’s 1-0 Champions League home defeat to Bayern Munich.

United’s disappointing performance in Europe saw them finish at the bottom of Group A with a record-low group stage points tally of four.

This defeat to Bayern Munich marked the team’s consecutive home losses, with the previous being a 3-0 loss to Bournemouth. United is now facing a crucial fixture against bitter rivals Liverpool, where a heavy loss could spell the end for Ten Hag.

According to SunSport, incoming Manchester United investor Sir Jim Ratcliffe has met with Potter and favors him as the potential new boss at Old Trafford should Ten Hag be relieved of his duties.

It is worth noting that Potter, 48, has been without a managerial role since his dismissal from Chelsea in April, having served for less than a season. Sir Jim Ratcliffe has consistently backed Potter and sought his services at various clubs, including French side Nice.

The English billionaire, who is set to acquire a 25% stake in United, will assume football operations at the club immediately upon completion of the purchase next week.

These developments come as Potter declined an offer to become the manager of Championship side Stoke earlier this week, following the departure of Alex Neil.

Ten Hag is the fifth permanent manager at United since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement after the 2012-13 Premier League title win.
