Manny Ramirez was born to Aristides and Onelcida Ramirez on May 30, 1972, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He grew up watching baseball and quickly developed a passion for it. When he was eight years old, his grandmother purchased him a Dodgers jersey with the number 30 on the back. He still considers it to be one of his most valuable assets. Because of his father’s transfer, the family relocated to New York City in 1985. He used to practice baseball near Snake Hill and in Lou Gehrig’s neighborhood.
Ramirez graduated from George Washington High School in 1991 and decided not to continue his education because he wanted to focus on his game. During his high school years, he was a member of the GWHS football team, where he led his team to three consecutive division titles.
