Where do the Baby Mario characters come from?

Baby Mario appears in the Japanese manga series Super Mario-kun several times. His first appearance is issue 14, where it is based on Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island. The volume starts off with adult Mario and Luigi traveling to the past in order to stop Bowser from helping Kamek kidnap Baby Mario and Baby Luigi.
