Michael Olszyk Died: Former North Metro Conductor Gone Too Soon

It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the untimely passing of Michael Edward Olszyk. A loving father of two, former North Metro conductor, and a cherished member of the North Haven community, Michael’s passing leaves an indelible void in the hearts of those who knew him.

Born on Christmas Eve 1989 in New Haven, Michael was the first son of Peter and Deborah Rimmer Olszyk. His birth marked the unification of two families, creating a bond that only grew stronger over time. He worked as a conductor for Metro North for many years, continuing a family legacy, and was a respected member of the Association of Commuter Rail Employees (ACRE).

Michael’s passion for sports was unrivaled. An accomplished baseball player, his journey began with AAU baseball, leading him to play for Hill Regional Career High School, where he was twice recognized as an All-State player. He furthered his skills at Suffield Academy and pursued his passion at Sacred Heart University, earning the title of Rookie of the Year, and later at the University of Bridgeport. His love for the game didn’t stop there; he continued to play in various men’s leagues across Greater New Haven. Michael also enjoyed golfing and was a devoted fan of the New York Jets and Yankees.

Above all, Michael’s greatest joy came from his two sons, Luke John and Matthew Robert Olszyk. He was a beloved brother and lifelong friend, leaving behind a grieving family and a heartbroken community. His smile, reflected in the eyes of his sons, will be a constant reminder of his enduring spirit.

In these moments of sorrow, we remember ‘Mikey’ fondly. Every leap off the dock, every crack of a bat on the baseball field, and every shared smile will serve as a tribute to his memory. He will be deeply missed, every day, for the rest of our lives.

Calling hours will be held at North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave, North Haven, CT 06473, on Saturday, November 4, 2023, from 1 pm-5 pm. The burial will be private.
