Professional Career:

The Gates Foundation and Bill Gates’ fortune through Cascade Investment are both under the leadership of American money manager Michael Larson. He is 61 years old and was born in Sacramento, California in October 1959. Also, he was reared in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Claremont McKenna College and the University of Washington. afterwards graduated from the University of Chicago with an MBA.

He worked for ARCO doing mergers and acquisitions after receiving his MBA. After two years at the company, he left and started his own fund. Later, he worked for Putnam Investments in Boston handling bond funds. Later, he intended to own a money management business in Chicago.

He was the lone employee of BGI (Bill Gates Investments) when he started working there, but the headhunter offered him a job with Bill Gates. He later hired Claremont McKenna College graduate Alan Heuberger in 1996.  Initially overseeing $11.5 billion of the Gates fortune and charity, Larson now oversees more than $80 billion.

He participated in the Allen & Company Sun Valley Conference, and in addition to serving as chairman of the board of directors of Western Asset, he also serves on the boards of Pan American Silver, Ecolab, Teledesic, Hamilton Lane, Republic Services, FoodTrader.com, and AutoNation.

He has also held the position of Chair of the Investment Committee at the University of Washington. Larson also served as a trustee for the United Negro College Fund, Claremont McKenna College, and Lakeside School.
