A modulating control valve is an automated valve that is used to control the amount of flow in a system or process. They go beyond simple shutoff or isolation (on/off) and actually allow precise control of the flow rate.

What is a modulating control?

Modulating controls are devices that are used to regulate control loops in a process. One plant may have multiple control loops, which all require control valves to monitor and control the process variable of the particular loop.

Where is the modulating control valve located?

A modulating control valve allows a driver to gradually apply spring brakes. In equipped vehicles, the valve is controlled by a lever located on the dashboard.

This is referred to as TWO POSITION control. This type of control is used with failsafe actuators. In modulating/proportional control, the output to the actuator varies continuously and is not limited to being fully open or fully closed.
